The opportunity
The Data Analyst will report to the Data Manager and will be responsible for the collation and analysis of field survey data collected from. This will include qualitative information from flow and water quality monitoring instrumentation recorded by EMS Field Staff. They will also liaise as necessary with EMS’ Technical Team in the collation, analysis, and final preparation of data for presentation to the client.
On behalf of the Data Manager, the Data Analyst will communicate with EMS Field Staff regarding the retrieval and relaying of data, on points of clarification, and to advise on instrument malfunction evident from data analysis.
It is expected that the Data Analyst will have strong IT and data management skills, analytical skills, and an appreciation for the context of the data they are handling and analysing. EMS will provide training and familiarisation with survey work and handling and analysis processes. These processes are governed by procedures documented in manuals and encapsulated in specialist software and spreadsheet tools.
The successful candidate will be eager, diligent, able to demonstrate the necessary skills and be determined to take work to a timely conclusion. The Data Analyst must be able to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
This is a part time role based in Sheffield.
Essential and Desirable Skills/Experience
The position requires a wide range of skills including, but not limited to the following:

- IT skills, particularly in analytical software including MS Excel
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Organisational skills, in order to collate and organise data at different stages of processing
- Demonstrate ownership of issues to achieve timely resolutions
- Flexible attitude and a determination to work independently or on a team
- An understanding or previous experience of Hydrology/Water Resources would be desirable
